A Murderer’s Longing

This is for you, o brilliant youth
So hastily murdered by me.
Your eyes, where once the stars have dwelt,
Were dimmed and dulled by me.

So full of life and light you were,
And see what I have done!
Lifeless, dreamless corpse you are
Now bound to never see the sun.

I wish it was an accident —
Your murder just a homicide —
But then the manner of your death
Took me long to decide.

Know that I loved you, though I slayed you,
You brazen, bright-eyed youth.
But now I long and ache for you —
To have you again forsooth!
